Med School Requirements
The Most Common Med School Requirements

med school requirementsIf you want to enroll in a medical school, you must complete all of your med school requirements before applying to the school. Each medical school has different requirements. The best way to find out the requirements of a certain medical school is to contact the school (which can be done online) or visit the school yourself. Here you will find some of the most common requirements of a typical medical school. Almost all medical schools require some or all of the requirements listed here. Try and complete the requirements listed here in order to get yourself prepared before you apply at your desired medical school.

 Coursework

You need to complete at least 1 year in several basic school courses and get satisfactory grades before you enroll in almost any medical school. Calculus, Physics, English, Organic Chemistry, and Biology are some of the courses you need to complete before you are allowed to enroll in a medical school. You can complete these medical school requirements by finishing a bachelor’s degree program.

GPA

Your acceptance into a medical school may also depend on your GPA (grade point average). Some medical schools require you to have a minimum GPA of 3.5. However, a medical school usually won’t tell you what their minimum GPA requirement is. You can find out what GPA a medical school requires by looking at the class statistics of a previous year from that school. The higher your GPA, the better your chances of getting accepted into a medical school.

MCATs

Some medical schools also look at your scores in the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) to see if you meet their standards. Some schools don’t reveal or don’t have minimum MCAT scores, but the higher your score, the higher your chances of getting accepted by a medical school. Check the internet for the average MCAT score of your chosen medical school to get an idea on their standards. For example, the average MCAT scores of applicants accepted in Harvard University are 12.36 in Biology and 12.48 in Physical Science.

Bachelor’s Degree

Most medical schools require you to have earned your bachelor’s degree from another school before you enroll. Most medical schools don’t require you to have a science degree, so you still have a chance to get accepted into a medical school even if you have a non-science degree. There are even medical schools that prefer applicants who have a non-science degree because these schools want to have a diverse and well-rounded student body.
